Video Summary
This presentation highlights the importance of systematic reviews and evidence-based decision-making to improve femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) practice. Systematic reviews synthesize broad data, minimize bias, and often include meta-analyses to combine quantitative results. FAI surgery is increasing rapidly, but the literature shows mostly lower-quality evidence with limited high-level studies. Diagnosis remains challenging due to variability among clinicians and poor-quality online patient information. Despite these challenges, evidence supports early surgery benefits, labral repair over debridement, and safety in pediatric patients. Learning hip arthroscopy requires a long, gradual skill development beyond initial cases. Outcome measures vary widely, complicating comparisons, but reducing alpha angle and improving patient function are promising indicators. Complication rates are low (around 4%), with mostly minor, transient issues. The future lies in standardized, composite outcome measures integrating clinical data, imaging, biomarkers, and biomechanics to provide comprehensive patient assessments and improve FAI management.
