Video Summary
The General Session highlighted diversity initiatives, celebrated outstanding members with awards, and announced the 2024-2025 ANA leadership slate. Moderated by Drs. John Tokish and Rachel Frank, the diversity segment focused on increasing representation of women and ethnic minorities in orthopedics—a traditionally male-dominated field. Presenters included daughters of orthopedic surgeons sharing inspiring stories of familial support, resilience, and mentorship that enabled their careers. They emphasized grit, supportive environments, and the positive impact diverse teams have on patient care and outcomes. The discussion encouraged all members, regardless of background, to mentor and advocate for greater inclusion.

Awards recognized exceptional contributions in education, research, collaboration, and leadership. Jeff Abrams and Bob Burks received Distinguished Service Awards for their lifetime achievements, leadership, academic integrity, and commitment to the community and ANA. Steve Burkhart received the highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, for revolutionizing shoulder arthroscopy and shaping military and civilian orthopedics with his innovations and principles.

Additional awards honored excellence in education (Bill Ciccone), research (Mustafa Rashid, Shaquille Charles, Hiro Triana, Joseph Brinkman), diversity research (Arman Kamish), active engagement (Lee Pace), and highlighted ANA’s prestigious Traveling Fellowship recipients.

Outgoing committee chairs were recognized for sustaining ANA’s work through volunteerism and leadership. Finally, the nominating committee announced a robust 2024-2025 leadership slate, including Kevin Bonner as Second Vice President and others poised to sustain ANA's vision. The session concluded with gratitude for continued efforts to evolve orthopedics into a more inclusive, innovative, and collaborative specialty.
