Video Summary
This study compared latissimus dorsi tendon transfer (LDT) and arthroscopic superior capsule reconstruction (SCR) in treating massive irreparable rotator cuff tears. Involving 41 patients, LDT improved external rotation significantly, while SCR led to greater gains in forward flexion. Both procedures showed similar patient-reported outcomes postoperatively. Despite differences in range of motion improvements—SCR favored forward flexion and LDT external rotation—subjective shoulder function scores were comparable. The study highlights both as viable options, with longer-term follow-up planned to further evaluate which technique offers superior outcomes in young patients with these challenging injuries.
