Video Summary
This study evaluated the effects of relaxation exercises on post-operative pain, opioid use, and shoulder function after rotator cuff repair. Patients were randomized to a control group receiving standard care or a relaxation group who also received guided relaxation instruction preoperatively. While pain scores during the first five days showed no difference, the relaxation group used significantly fewer opioid tablets two weeks post-surgery. Most found the exercises helpful and continued using them. Shoulder function was similar between groups. The study concludes that relaxation exercises are safe, cost-effective, and may reduce opioid consumption, recommending their incorporation into perioperative care.
