Video Summary
This study evaluated adding a PECS II block to the standard interscalene block for subpectoral biceps tenodesis to improve pain control, especially axillary pain. While the interscalene block effectively targets upper and middle plexus trunks, it often spares the axilla due to insufficiency in blocking intercostal and lower trunk nerves. The PECS block, involving injections between pectoral muscles and serratus, was hypothesized to cover these gaps. Results showed significantly lower resting and axillary pain up to six hours postoperatively and reduced opioid requirements with the PECS addition. Thus, combining these blocks enhances analgesia and may reduce postoperative complications related to pain.
