Video Summary
This study used the Rochester Epidemiology Project to analyze 81 patients with first-time lateral patellar dislocations over a 10-year follow-up. Recognizing the multifactorial risk of recurrence, researchers developed the multivariable RIP score based on age (<25 years), skeletal immaturity, trochlear dysplasia, and TTTG/PL ratio. The RIP score stratifies patients into low, intermediate, and high risk of recurrent instability, with 10-year recurrence rates of 0%, 31%, and 79%, respectively. It demonstrated strong predictive ability (AUC 0.875). The RIP score aids long-term prognosis and clinical decision-making and is accessible for clinicians via MDCalc.
