Video Summary
This study evaluated outcomes of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in obese (BMI >30) versus non-obese patients with recurrent patella instability. Fifty-five patients were followed for up to 59 months with pre- and post-surgical outcome scores (KUS and Tegner). Both groups showed significant functional improvement and low complication rates, indicating MPFL reconstruction is safe and effective for obese patients. However, obese patients had lower quality of life and activity levels post-surgery compared to non-obese, despite similar complication rates. These findings aid counseling patients about realistic expectations following MPFL reconstruction surgery.
