Video Summary
This study assessed the effects of acetabular labrum venting and capsulotomy on traction force and joint distraction in hip arthroscopy patients. In 107 patients, both interventions independently improved the ratio of hip distraction distance to traction force by about 2-3%. Revision surgeries showed greater benefit from venting, while male sex predicted smaller benefits from both procedures. The study found that performing venting and capsulotomy after adequate distraction may yield smaller traction force reductions than prior studies suggest. Despite limitations, results support that these procedures modestly reduce traction force needed, potentially lowering traction-related complications in hip arthroscopy.
