Video Summary
This study evaluated the effectiveness of preoperative ultrasound-guided fascia iliaca compartment blocks (FI block) on pain control in patients undergoing unilateral primary hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement. Seventy-four patients were randomized to receive either the FI block with ropivacaine or a placebo saline injection. Results showed the FI block group had significantly reduced PACU narcotic use, shorter PACU stays, and improved pain scores, especially in the immediate postoperative period. Though the duration of postoperative narcotic use trended shorter, it was not statistically significant. Overall, the FI block improved pain management and accelerated recovery after hip arthroscopy.
