Pdf Summary
The Foot and Ankle Arthroscopy course, held June 28-29, 2019 at the OLC, focuses on new techniques to enhance clinical practice. The agenda includes lectures, lab demonstrations, case discussions, and live demos covering a range of topics related to foot and ankle arthroscopy.

On Friday morning, the course welcomes participants with introductions by Drs. James Stone and Richard Ferkel, followed by lectures on anterior and posterior arthroscopy, osteochondral lesions of the talus (including microfracture, osteochondral transfers, and biologics), and arthritis treatments (arthroscopic fusion and total ankle replacement). A cadaver lab demonstrates lateral approach to the subtalar joint and arthroscopic approaches to osteochondral lesions.

Afternoon sessions cover fracture management (arthroscopy in ankle fractures, minimally invasive surgery), instability treatments (open Brostrom repair, arthroscopic repairs, syndesmosis injury diagnosis and treatment), and tendoscopy (posterior tibial and peroneal tendon pathology, peroneal subluxation). A cadaver lab demonstrates arthroscopic lateral stabilization and syndesmosis and medial repair. Evening includes dinner with case discussions and Q&A.

Saturday begins with discussions on Achilles tendon repair, debating open repair versus minimally invasive approaches, gastroc recession, and foot surgery topics like great toe arthroscopy, plantar fascia release, and minimally invasive bunion surgery. The remainder of the morning is dedicated to cadaver lab demonstrations on Achilles repair and posterior arthroscopy applications. The course concludes at noon.

Key faculty and instructors include course chairs Drs. James Stone and Richard Ferkel, with master instructors Drs. Phinit Phisitkul, Peter Mangone, Eric Giza, and John Kennedy. Attendees are encouraged to bring note-taking materials. Coffee and meals are provided, and sessions emphasize hands-on learning and current best practices in foot and ankle arthroscopy.
