Pdf Summary
The 3rd Annual Fellows/Chief Residents Course, held February 21–23, 2020 at the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC), is a comprehensive educational event targeting orthopedic fellows and chief residents. It offers 18.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits and is designed to advance participants' knowledge and technical skills in joint arthroscopy for the hip, knee, and shoulder.

The course features a mix of lectures, lab sessions, panel discussions, and non-CME sponsored presentations from leading faculty and course co-chairs such as Denver T. Stanfield, M.D., Brian R. Waterman, M.D., and Jovan Laskovski, M.D. Key topics include biologics and regenerative medicine, advanced ultrasound techniques, surgical principles for meniscal, labral, capsular, and soft tissue repairs, and operative management of common pathologies like hip impingement, snapping hip syndrome, athletic pubalgia, and gluteus medius tears.

Daily cadaver labs provide hands-on experience in arthroscopic portals, repairs, reconstructions, resections, and advanced peripheral compartment procedures. Interactive lectures cover diagnostic imaging, indications for arthroscopy, OR setup, and various surgical techniques. Practice management, billing, and coding sessions, as well as discussions about navigating industry relationships and the challenges of early practice, complement the clinical training.

The event also emphasizes professional development, with sessions dedicated to the roles of team physicians, ABOS exam preparation, and engagement with AANA membership after fellowship. Refreshments and networking opportunities, including faculty dinners, complement the learning environment.

By the end of the course, participants are expected to enhance their surgical technique repertoire, understand open and arthroscopic procedures for extra-articular repairs, and gain insights into practice management and office procedures. Course materials are accessible via the AANA mobile app for convenient learning before and during the event.
