Video Summary
This study analyzed 235 patients with calcific tendonitis of the shoulder to identify factors predicting failure of conservative treatment. Results showed that lesions larger than 1 cm significantly increased the likelihood (2.86 times) of requiring surgery. While most patients improved with non-operative care, 38.9% failed and needed arthroscopic calcium removal, with 82% of these also undergoing rotator cuff repair. Surgical patients experienced significant pain relief and improved function. Findings suggest lesion size helps predict treatment outcomes, guiding surgical decisions and rehabilitation, as rotator cuff repair necessitates distinct post-op management.
