Video Summary
This study examined the impact of insurance status on access to sports medicine care in pediatric patients with ACL and bucket handle meniscal injuries. Analyzing 190 patients over 4.5 years, researchers found that those with Medicaid or pro bono insurance experienced significantly delayed presentation to care compared to privately insured or Tri-care patients. Specifically, over 50% of Medicaid/pro bono patients had delays greater than 30 days, versus about 32% in the privately insured group. Delays were even more pronounced in bucket handle meniscal tear cases. The findings highlight disparities in healthcare access for underinsured children, suggesting a need for further research on outcomes related to delayed care.
