Video Summary
This study evaluated midterm outcomes of post-remedial meniscal root repair (PMMRT) in 18 patients, with 15 completing functional assessments and 10 undergoing repeat MRIs at five years. Although functional scores improved from pre-op to two and five years, medial compartment cartilage degeneration and meniscal extrusion worsened, and only three roots appeared healed radiographically. Persistent extrusion and poor root healing likely drive arthritis progression despite symptom improvement. The study suggests that isolated root repair may not adequately restore knee biomechanics and recommends considering augmentation techniques like meniscal centralization to reduce extrusion, offload stress, and enhance healing. Limitations include limited MRI follow-up and imaging-based cartilage assessment.
