Video Summary
This 11-year multicenter trial between Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Center and Andrews Institute tested the CART technique for treating large cartilage defects using autologous stem cells. CART involves marrow stimulation, stem cell mobilization with neupogen, apheresis harvest, cryopreservation, and multiple post-op injections combined with physical therapy. Started in 2016 with 120 subjects, the randomized controlled trial compared CART to hyaluronic acid and therapy. Results at 12-24 months showed significant improvements in clinical scores (IKDC, KUS pain), MRI healing (MOCART), and pain reduction, demonstrating safety and efficacy in complex cartilage repair.
